Description
Martinikerk '45
This print shows the Martini Church and the destroyed buildings on the Grote Markt in Groningen. From April 13 to 16, 1945, around fourteen thousand Canadians fought fiercely in the city. The Canadians first attacked the east of the city to prevent the Germans from retreating to Delfzijl. Shortly after the liberation, work began on restoring the Martini Tower.
