Description
Martini Church '45
This print shows the Martinikerk and the destroyed buildings on the Grote Markt in Groningen. From April 13 to 16, 1945, some fourteen thousand Canadians fought fiercely in the city. The Canadians were the first to attack the east of the city, in order to prevent the Germans from retreating to Delfzijl. Shortly after the liberation, work was already underway on the restoration of the Martinitoren.
